The Syringa Plus Nursery, specializes in nursery liners and fine lilacs. Our collection of stock plants is located in West Newbury, Massachusetts and our propagation operation in Swanville, Maine. We excel in growing “True-to-Name” Lilacs propagated from softwood cuttings. Syringa Plus was established in 1994 by Roger G. Coggeshall and Evelyn A. King as a wholesale nursery, with retail trade also available.
Roger was a passionate nurseryman, devoted to the propagation and cultivation of many varieties of woody plants, trees and shrubs, for use in New England landscapes. He began his career as a propagator and educator at the Arnold Arboretum. For over twenty-five years Roger and Evie worked together to build Syringa Plus Nursery, and make lilacs available to growers for the public.
Although Roger passed away in 2013, and Syringa Plus missed three years of propagation, 2019 finds Syringa Plus reestablishing its inventory.
We are looking forward to our third propagation season in Maine, propagating again from our stock collected over many years by Roger, and Evie, and from other sources of rare lilacs. Roger’s presence and spirit lives on in the plants that absorbed his passion, and in this lilac business he and Evie loved and nurtured .
All of our Lilacs (Syringa, to those in the industry) are grown on their own roots. We pride ourselves on our wide assortment of quality Lilacs, with over 200 species and cultivars in our collection.

Syringa Plus Lilacs in Swanville, Maine.
In 2024 we are merging Syringa Plus Nursery with Carol’s Collectibles Nursery in Swanville, Maine under the name Bloomin’ Root Nursery.
Syringa Plus currently has 50+ cultivars under production, one of the largest selections in New England. Sizes range from 2 ½” to 5 gallon pots, priced from $11 to $100. We’ll publish an availability list when winter abates.
Rebuilding Syringa Plus’ inventory means attention goes first to the propagating window, when Evie may be on the road gathering cuttings and in the greenhouse rooting them, so Talking lilacs with Evie is by appointment or chance only.
